The Holy Spirit as a Wild Goose
Continuing our worship series, We Are Witnesses, and the sermon on Pentecost of the moving of the Holy Spirit.
Just as the disciples gathered in prayer when the Holy Spirit came upon them, we, as the Emmanuel community, are coming together this June to begin 21 days of prayer as a spiritual and communal practice.
You will get an email every day and see reminders on social media to pray at 9:00 a.m. every day for the next 21 days. Because the Scripture tells us 9:00 a.m. is when the Spirit of God just might move. (Acts 2:1-21)
Pray for your faith life, but also be mindful of Emmanuel, and our community, and what the church needs as we pray for the world, our neighborhood, and our own holiness of heart.
Over the next three weeks, let’s be expectant—that the Goose just might be loose.
Hopefully, not only will you notice a new symbol for the Holy Spirit, but notice the actual Holy Spirit—who clamors and disrupts our lives. Watch for those frequency illusions.
Because the more we notice, the more we notice. And the more we notice, the more the Spirit is revealed—even when we aren’t looking-that her flapping wings have been moving the whole time.
The wild Goose knows no boundaries.
The wild Goose cannot be tamed.
The holy Dove rests upon us in prayer.
And the wild Goose throws us into action.May it be so, in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen
